Eastern Market Celebrates Summer with Third Thursday Events

The streets of Capitol Hill’s vibrant Eastern Market come alive even more than usual on the third Thursday of each month.

From May to September, Eastern Market Main Street presents a season-full of activities and entertainment for all ages and interests.

The nonprofit EMMS is dedicated to “fostering a vibrant, neighborhood serving corridor,” and to that end, the Third Thursdays program will bring community-building activities to the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood intended to engage longtime residents, newcomers, and visitors to the region.

A complete schedule of activities is available at the EMMS website. The season begins with a full program.

Highlights of the May 16 Third Thursday include — “giant Jenga” and giant checkers, bicycle workshops and free tune-ups, live art with Amber Kilpatrick, D.C.’s “Queen of the Blues” Carly Harvey, open board game with Labyrinth and D.C. Public Librarian David Quick and the Capitol Hill Reads Book Club discussing “Heads of the Colored People.”

Third Thursdays take place on C Street Plaza SE at 777 C Street S.E.
