Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

How in the hell do we get off the Post Marketplace mailing list? We never signed up for it, we don’t even have a subscription to the newspaper and they constantly are spamming our physical inbox with it. Waste of paper & ink, and they go into our recycling without being looked at.”

Anyone ever successfully opt out of this mailing?

Bars

Ed. Note: This is the the former Mr. P’s Ribs lot.

It had been like a year since our last Electric Cool-Aid update. Thanks to a reader for sending word about their Indiegogo:

“We are here to bring you hot fun in the summertime. Frozen drinks, things in cans, and a magic bus, all at the corner of 6th and Rhode Island NW.

You may be hearing about us for the first time, or maybe you have been hearing about us for over a year. We have gone from being a dream to having building permits and an approval for a liquor license, now we just need to build this beauty.

What we need / What you get (more…)

Restaurants

2214 Rhode Island Avenue, NE

“Momo Yakitori is a yakitori restaurant and bar in the Woodridge neighborhood of Northeast Washington, DC.

Yakitori is a type of Japanese skewered chicken. Our chicken is skewered with wooden or bamboo skewers, grilled over a binchotan charcoal grill and seasoned with a variety of house made sauces. At Momo Yakitori, we use Green Circle Chicken that is antibiotic, hormone-free chicken raised free range on a vegetable diet and certified humane.”

Ed. Note: This was previously the home to Nido and Lace on the Avenue before them.

Thanks to V.J. for sending from Momo Yakitori:

“Thank you for your support! We will be closing our doors at the end of the year. Our last day of service will be 12/29. We’d love to see you at least one more time!”

You can see their menu here.

Chinatown

709 7th Street, NW

Thanks to Kristen for sharing:

“I ran an errand to Bed Bath and Beyond in Chinatown and the cashier told me that as of today they are a “liquidation store” and that they will be closing (I didn’t get the date). I told her I didn’t know that and she said that employees had just heard today themselves. I am not heartbroken by the store closing, but I definitely feel bad for the employees, especially this time of year. Thought I would share especially after what happened with La Tasca across the street.”

Chinatown

6th and I Street, NW

Thanks to all who passed on the sad news from Sixth & I:

“Dear Sixth & I community,

We are incredibly sad but unfortunately not surprised to let you know that this past Friday, less than 24 hours after many of us sat around the Thanksgiving table in gratitude, anti-Semitic graffiti was carved into a door and drawn on a stairway of our historic building. While the damage to the building is minimal and will be fixed quickly, the emotional scars of such a hateful act will take longer to heal. (more…)
