Ethan reports:

“The lady at Sichuan express told me the whole place is being shut at the end of the month. They and everybody else are being forced to close.”

The roller coaster that is the International Square food court hall appears to be reaching an end. RIP Stoupsys forever. Updates as we learn more.

Dupont Circle

From a press release:

“Curious folk dancers from all over the country will converge on Dupont Circle on January 4 and 5 for Bal DC, the United States’ first festival for bal folk, French traditional dancing. The American bal folk scene has been underground for decades, so the announcement has brought musicians and dancers from as far as Texas, Washington State, and Scotland.

Bal folk festivals in Western Europe draw crowds of thousands. You might think you’re at a pop music festival except for the instruments: bands rev up dancers with bagpipes, accordions, and hurdy-gurdies, buzzing string instruments played by turning a crank. Nights feature a mix of dances, including partner dances, circles, and chains. Bal DC will be more intimate than European festivals, but will combine the same thrilling music with simple, satisfying dances. (more…)

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I am interested in getting more fit in the new year and know there are a ton of gyms with deals, but what I’m really interested in is doing it with a group. I’m not exactly sure how to find those. Not necessarily a bootcamp, but a group of people who are not so in shape being trained by the same person consistently every week in order to get stronger and healthier! Know any groups like that? They don’t even necessarily have to be associated with a gym, although it would be nice to be in that environment. Help appreciated!”
