Bars

1433 P Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

I’m hoping to crowd source bars in DC that will be showing The Bachelor premiere (with sound!) on January 6. I’ve tried reaching out to a few bars but haven’t gotten any responses. We have a group that’s looking for a spot, but not sure if there’s anywhere we can go.”

I’d try calling Stoney’s for sure. Any other spots you’d think would be amenable?

From an email:

“Brother-and-sister owners Ken and Aki Ballogdajan will open their new concept AKO by KENAKI at The Roost early 2020. Chef Ken and his sister Aki opened their first restaurant, KENAKI Sushi Counter, in Gaithersburg last year. While Ken touts a 25-year career in the industry (which includes time spent at Raku, VOLT, and with Chef Ryan Trevino in San Juan, PR), his sister Aki left her career in software in 2018 to open KENAKI as its GM. Though this will be the second concept for the Ballogdajans, the siblings are third-generation restaurant owners and got their start in the industry as teens. Their sushi counter at The Roost is named for their late mother, Ako (her nickname). (more…)

My God this is crazy. Thanks to Lisa for sending from NBC Washington:

“The shots fired before 4 p.m. near the intersection of Hawaii Avenue and Varnum Street in Northeast D.C. did not hit the officers but did strike a police vehicle, police said.

The officers called for backup and police arrested a man in possession of a gun.”

Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fourth District announced an arrest has been made in reference to an Assault with Intent to Kill (Gun) and Assault on a Police Officer Offense that occurred on Thursday, December 12, 2019, in the 300 block of Hawaii Avenue, Northeast.

At approximately 3:47 pm, uniformed reserve officers of the Fourth District were entering a marked police cruiser at the listed location. The suspect brandished a firearm and discharged it in the direction of the officers, striking their vehicle. The suspect fled the scene, but was apprehended by responding officers. No officers were injured. A firearm was recovered and can be seen in the photo above.

From La Tejana:

“Following last week‘s sold out event at Room 11, La Tejana’s Tex-Mex breakfast taco pop-up is returning tomorrow (Saturday 12/14 from 10 am – sellout) with a double batch of homemade flour tortillas, chorizo, migas, papas con huevo and boozy topo chico. Because holiday shopping is better when slightly buzzed and three breakfast tacos deep…

Shout out to everyone who came out last weekend (and waited patiently for their tacos – shorter wait times are guaranteed this weekend). Might even be a surprise or two in store”

Anyone take a taste last week?

I got called for Jury Duty, again. Now I get called every two years after seemingly rarely getting called. I even got called to a grand jury this year though fortunately, since I work for myself it would be rough to do, I didn’t have to serve on the actual jury. Anyway, now that I’ve figured out how to insert polls into posts again – I’d like to revisit the Jury Duty question. When’s the last time you were called to jury duty? Did you serve on a jury? How long did your jury duty last? Did you convict or acquit?
