Tricia McCauley Memorial Herb Garden Planned for LeDroit Park – Needs Your Support

From an email: “A group of us in Bloomingdale are attempting to raise funding to support construction of the Tricia McCauley Memorial Herb Garden in LeDroit Park, with construction scheduled to begin early in the New Year.”

For those not familiar with Tricia you can read about her tragic story here. She was a beloved member of Bloomingdale and so many other communities. RIP.

The fundraiser says:

“Friends and family of Tricia McCauley, in partnership with Common Good City Farm, are honoring her legacy through the creation of the Tricia McCauley Memorial Fund. The fund will preserve Tricia’s love of herbalism and teaching through supporting the ongoing cultivation of the medicinal herb garden, now The Tricia McCauley Memorial Herb Garden, as well as herbalism workshops at Common Good City Farm.

Building on this work, we are now launching an effort in partnership with the LeDroit Park Community Garden to construct an herb bed for public use in the community garden space. Tricia’s work spanned the fence; she was often seen taking tour groups over to her community garden plot to discuss a plant she was cultivating there. The design invites passer-byes to sit on the ledge, take in the space, and maybe harvest from the herbs growing there. A sign affixed to the fence will illustrate the plants and provide information on their common and little-known uses alike. We hope to lay the stones in early 2019, and begin planting as the season allows.”

This year’s games will be Saturday, April 27th, 1 PM to 4 PM at SPIN DC. It’ll be a chaotic afternoon of ping-pong, costumes, terrible Battlestar Galactica puns, and good cheer. We’d love to have you join us!
