Blues Alley Building Reportedly For Sale, Business May Not Reopen in Georgetown

1073 Wisconsin Avenue, NW (alley)

Potentially painful news from NBC Washington:

“One of the most iconic music venues in the world and a landmark in Washington, D.C., that has been closed due to the pandemic is unlikely to reopen at its original site.

The owner of the building, Snyder Properties, says the building is now for sale.

The owner of the property and the owner of the business said talks between the two sides have stalled.”

Blues Alley’s website says:

“2021 marks the 56th continuous year that we have been serving the jazz population of our Nation’s Capital

and the world via nightly entertainment, concerts, festivals, our “Embassy Jazz Series” and our weekly virtual streaming performances live from the National Press Club in downtown Washington, DC. We continue to keep jazz music alive via our loyal listeners, by supporting our local musicians, our staff Go-Fund-Me campaign, our industry partnerships and our Blues Alley logoed merchandise sales. I also want to update all that Blues Alley looks forward to optimistically reopening in the third quarter of 2021, with a limited entertainment calendar and possibly returning to a full seating capacity by the fourth quarter of this year. This timeline will require enormous cooperation including achieving a plurality of vaccinations in America.”

Stay tuned.
