Hillyer presents three new exhibitions opening on April’s First Friday, featuring “The Last Swiss Holocaust Survivors”, the group exhibition “REVEALED” juried by Nicole Dowd, and a solo exhibition featuring Tom Olson.
Presented in partnership with the Embassy of Switzerland in Washington D.C., “The Last Swiss Holocaust Survivors” is a powerful exhibition that uses photography, video, and oral histories to give voice to the women and men who built a new life in Switzerland after surviving the Holocaust. “REVEALED” examines the relevance and value of self-portraiture through the individual artist’s varied approaches to self-representation; featuring work by local, national, and international artists including Fithi Abraham, Mike Callaghan, Brandon Chambers, Mandy Cooper, Luis Flores, Muriel Hasbun, Annette Isham, and Qin Tan. Flipbook illustrator Tom Olson’s “Truer Than True” weaves tales of love, loss, and other investigations into the human psyche and the absurd, by spending countless hours drawing hundreds of pages to arrive at a profound six seconds. Guests can meet many of the artists at the reception on Friday, April 2nd from 6-9pm, during Dupont Circle’s First Friday Gallery Walk.
April First Friday at Hillyer is sponsored by the Bier Baron Tavern.
