“The PTO of Ida B. Wells Middle School and the PSCO of John Lewis Elementary School are reaching out as neighbors and fellow Ward 4 community members who care deeply about the Hernandez family.

On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, after dropping his child off at John Lewis Elementary School, our neighbor and friend was suddenly detained by federal agents on his way to work. He has been held at a detention center in Chantilly, Virginia for one week and has since been moved to a detention center in Texas. His wife has only been able to speak with him twice.

For the past three days – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, there have been fights of high schoolers at dismissal time at Upshur/Georgia/Petworth Library area that have overwhelmed the Safe Passage team members and called for a large police response and presence. A tipster tells me that they heard folks from Snappy’s (3917 Georgia Ave, NW) will be opening a second location in Logan Circle/14th Street possibly around 14th and S Street, NW. I wasn’t able to confirm the location or other details but Snappy’s does confirm:

“Yeah, some of the team here are doing a second venture.”

Last night around 10:30 PM a vehicle was reportedly speeding while chased by federal law enforcement, hit a speed bump and flipped over on Webster St NW between 2nd St NW and Rock Creek Church Rd NW. We could hear a lot of helicopters overhead and saw a lot of non MPD on the scene so I grabbed my dog and went to get a closer look. (more…)
