“Baffling DC parking issue – please help!”

“Dear PoPville,

I live in Brookland which is parking zone 5. My building offers private parking in a garage but it costs $300/month and the spots are in high demand (there’s a long waiting list). When I got a car recently, I decided to forgo the costly parking garage and take my chances street parking instead. Much to my confusion, I’m being regularly ticketed for parking on my own street. The tickets cite “residential parking” and “no residential parking permit.”

When I contacted the DMV for clarification, I was told that because of my street address, I do not qualify for a residential parking permit. (more…)

“Metro asks public to comment on proposed parking changes at Brookland-CUA Station for future joint development”

“Metro’s Brookland-CUA Station is primed for growth as part of a 10-year Strategic Plan for Joint Development to create a vibrant transit-oriented development. This includes changes to bus and Kiss & Ride facilities that would provide opportunities for a mix of housing and retail on Metro’s existing property around the station. Metro is asking the public to provide input on these proposed changes to the station’s transit facilities.

Under the proposal, Metro would reconfigure the bus loop, relocate the Kiss & Ride lot to an on-street facility, and reduce the existing 34 Kiss & Ride spaces to eight spaces. The proposed facility changes would enable Metro to seek a joint development partner to deliver approximately 400,000 square-feet of mixed-use development. (more…)

Thanks to DJ for sending: “the 8th St. NE extension of the MBT from Dew Drop to Brookland Pint is almost done. Cars only northbound now and they are starting to paint the bike lanes and parking spots.”

Update from a reader: “He is my neighbor and spent last night in the ICU and will be there for at least a few days. Won’t be able to eat solids for a few weeks.”
