“Dear PoPville,

To all the readers, does anyone know what’s up with Maggie’s Hot Dogs on Euclid St. NW? I live right there and I swear they were open at the oddest times (not during breakfast times even though they sell coffee) and it now says it’s closed. I don’t think I have ever seen it open.”

Yesterday readers noticed that Soho Tea & Coffee’s windows had been papered over, but like the Larry’s Lounge debacle – all is well! Soho Tea & Coffee now posts on their Facebook:

“Dear customers,

Happy Thanksgiving. May the warm glow of autumn surround you as you celebrate the holiday with family & friends.

Soho is closed during the holiday week.

Painting and changing the furniture.”

Thanks to Ian for sending the update: “Looks like they’re taking down the giant wood facade and going with on-brand papered window, but it’s certainly progress!! Also. wondering if we’re getting a “Sweetgreen 3.0” makeover at this location. It got panned in its NYC rollout, but could see it being a hit in the must-eat-now crowd of Cap Hill staffers.”

From Esquire’s Best New Restaurants in America, 2019: “#1 Seven Reasons

Ten minutes north of the White House and its sour, divisive rhetoric, immigrants are throwing a party. Unfettered joy radiates from inside Seven Reasons as you stand outside the front door, and once you enter and sit down, that joy makes itself known–proudly, defiantly–in the riot of flavors and hues that chef Enrique Limardo sends out from the kitchen. Limardo and several members of his team come from Venezuela, a country in the midst of collapse, and yet the Latin American food and cocktails at Seven Reasons–a mountain of black rice topped with prawns and pork cheeks, a salad in which the summery tang of tomatoes has been concentrated into cubes of jelly, a platter of hamachi tiradito whose pink and green splashes of salmon roe and jalapeño could hang in an art gallery–serve up jubilation as a remedy for pain and color as a cure for the blues. Is there almost too much packed into each bite? No one’s complaining. More-is-more extravagance is what makes Seven Reasons a fiesta you never want to stop.”

From an email:

This Thursday (11/28), Seven Reasons will be hosting a special Thanksgiving celebration with a special menu created by Executive Chef Enrique Limardo. (more…)

From La Tasca yesterday:

“The time has come to close La Tasca’s Penn Quarter location. We’re sad to see our DC location go but our Rockville and Alexandria La Tasca locations remain open and vibrant as ever, both with fresh new looks. We hope you’ll visit us there for our signature Spanish tapas and bustling nightlife. (more…)
