lower level 1875 I Street, NW

Back in early December we broke the news that the International Square Food Court would be closing (RIP Stoupsy’s foreva.) Thanks to a reader for passing on some plans for what’s coming via Bisnow:

“The food court inside International Square and street-level restaurant Prequel both closed last month. Tishman Speyer’s email to tenants said it plans to add a food hall to the building’s street level with about 20 carefully curated vendors and a bar. The owner also plans to add two new full-service restaurants and a boutique grocer to the street level, plus an additional restaurant to the lower level, the email said.”

I’ve already heard one rumor of a Whole Foods… STAY TUNED.

From Republic Cantina:

“Just a quick note about Republic Cantina’s brand new late series we’re rolling out which we’re calling OUTLAW HOUR. Each Fri & Sat night (9p-midnight) we’ll be spinning old classic country records on a turntable, with an interactive element: guests will be able to select a record; when that record plays, your table gets 1/2 off Pico Back shots. We’ll also introduce a late-night Happy Hour, and will be projecting some classic country performances (kicking off this weekend w/ Heartworn Highways). The late night HH will run every night (though the music component will be reserved for Fri & Sat nights). (more…)

Thanks to Lauren for sending from the 14W apartment building “The management sent it out to residents to notify them of construction hours/noise. Super exciting news! Lolita’s is amazing. This will be an awesome addition.”:

“14&W has been leased by a company out of Boston. They are opening their first restaurant in DC, Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar restaurant.”

Back in December we reported that a new restaurant from Boston’s COJE management group was coming to the old Kapnos space. Check out some of their Boston menus here and stay tuned for an opening date.

Thanks to Michael for reporting: “Spring Mill Bakery at 8th & G SE has posted a sign that it will be closing at the end of the month (other locations will remain open). Although I haven’t seen it in writing anywhere, scuttlebutt on the street is that Call Your Mother will take over the space.”

Spring Mill opened here back in 2011. In September of last year we learned that the uber popular Call Your Mother was planning on opening up a location on Capitol Hill (after Georgetown opens.) Update: EaterDC now confirms the Call Your Mother part!!

Update from Barrel:

“We apologize for the latest #BarrelSign. We trust our staff & give them the freedom to express themselves via our sign; some are hits, and this was a miss. The sign has been taken down. We will do better.”

Barrel has been known to stir the pot on these signs. Does it work? Jennifer sends this odd choice of a sign outside of Barrel in Capitol Hill on Sunday. (more…)
