Ed. Note: I think Tryst though a bit of a walk from metro sounds perfect. 2459 18th Street, NW. Photo by PoPville flickr user AWard Tour
“Dear PoPville,
So I wanted to know a good place for a birthday lunch/brunch kinda thing. I really like the areas around U Street/Logan Circle, Adams Morgan, and Eastern Market/Capitol Hill. The most important thing location-wise is that it’s metro accessible since that’s how many of my friends will be getting there. Any type of food is good. The place would preferably be not too expensive since we are students and on a budget.”

Thanks to Dylan for sending. Slapfish opened in the former Capriotti’s space in May of 2019. (more…)

Thanks to Kyle for sending: “According to the google reviews Friendship Macaron Cafe was always sort of a Korean place or at least had Korean style Macarons (I never went in). So possibly they are just rebranding? Interesting choice with all of the other Asian food places that have opened in Adams Morgan the past year, with still more to come and some already existing.”

From a press release:
“The team behind Michelin-honored Royal, Latin-inspired bar and eatery in Washington, DC’s LeDroit Park neighborhood, has just announced it will soon open its next venture, Lulu’s winegarden, just off U Street at 1940 11th Street NW, in February 2020. Lulu’s will be a communal, bottle-driven winegarden, with two lush garden patios, reimagined dinner party fare with hints of the southwest from chef and partner Cable Smith, and a fun and affordable under-$50 wine list curated by owner and wine director Paul Carlson.
Dreamt up by local husband-and-wife team Paul and Brittany Carlson, the name honors their 8-month-old daughter Lucilla. Paul currently owns the locally-treasured and esteemed Royal, and formerly operated long-lived and loved Vinoteca which closed in November 2019 after 12 years. (more…)

14th and Irving St, NW looking north towards DCUSA
May 2011 is a month that lives in infamy (for me.) A wrong is about to be righted, in spades. Yes, I speak of the darkest of days – when the Taco Bell at 14th and U Street, NW closed. Well, I heard some scuttlebutt that a few blocks north on 14th in Columbia Heights at DCUSA a Taco Bell is coming. Not just any Taco Bell. A Taco Bell Cantina!! You can see what one looks like in Vegas here. I’d give this scuttlebutt an 88% accuracy rating. Poo-poo – salt throwing – knocking wood vigorously. May the gods be kind to us and STAY TUNED.

Very cool. Tonari posts this tease on their Instagram:
“Where can you find a beautiful Japanese moss garden hidden inside a DC restaurant?
