Now that Thai Crossing and Timor Market have already made an appearance on the Prince of Petworth blog, I figured I might as well go ahead and divulge the location of the secret park in Bloomingdale/LeDroit Park. Nicely tucked away between the unit blocks of U and V Streets NW, and 1st St and North Capitol Streets NW, the Crispus Attucks Park website (www.crispusattuckspark.org) describes it as, “An Urban Oasis for Washington DC’s Bloomingdale Community”. It is named after Crispus Attucks, who was a former slave and the first person to be killed during the Boston Massacre.

Just a few years ago, this 1.36 acre parcel was a flat grassy lot with spots of asphalt and concrete surrounded by chain link fence. Thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers, it continues to transform into a planned landscape that includes paths, flowers, trees, and sitting areas. It includes both dog-friendly and dog-free zones, and features the added perk of a bag dispenser to encourage the proper disposal of doggie deposits. Story continues after the jump. (more…)

I found this photo on flickr looking for Clark Elementary, though this one is actually in Flint, MI  I think it gets the point across.

So I know some folks are tired of getting asked what they’d like to see developed because they feel like they don’t see any results. Well, I actually feel quite differently. It takes an awful long time for certain development projects to occur and the input from the community can help entice certain businesses to commit.

I received word from a developer that Clark Elementary School located at 4501 7th Street, NW is up for disposition. It was suggested that I solicit suggestions from you guys. Like I said I think this is a great opportunity for us as this is a pretty large site which sits on 5.5 acres.

So what would you like to see here – another school, a park, ball fields, a coffee shop and restaurants/bars, affordable housing, market rate housing, or of course the famed chocolate shop? Put any suggestion you may have in the comments.

Wow, Saturday was a beautiful day. As I was walking past Meridian Hill/Malcom X park I actually so someone sunbathing like it was July.

Ed. Note: I debated whether or not it was cool to post this picture but after consulting my attorneys and advisers they thought it’d be ok since the sunbather is not identifiable.

How’d you take advantage of the weather? You can see how I took advantage of the weather after the jump. (more…)

Starting Monday, Pete’s Apizza (right outside of the Columbia Heights metro) will open at 7AM for folks to grab a cup of Illy Caffe (espresso drinks and regular coffee), as well as breakfast pastries. I’ll post more details on the menu as it becomes available. Always good to have more breakfast options!

I actually love this poster.

I suspect it says something about having your pet spayed or neutered.

Ed. note: I don’t really think that is what is says but I’m quite fond of Bob Barker, so I thought this would be a good opportunity for a little tribute…

Nicely done, nicely done. It seems painting your house orange has multiple benefits.

It’s a bit blocked by the security bars but I think you can get a taste of the sweetness.
