Here’s a beauty from Georgia Avenue.

Seriously this is insane. I could kinda see in the window from across the street and it still looked like there was tons of work to do. What’s the over under on opening in 2009 versus 2010?

This is one of the nicest bungalow renovations I’ve seen. I found it up in North Country. By the by does anyone have $150,000 I can borrow?

A reader sent me an email a few weeks ago alerting me to the opening but I totally forgot about it until I walked by it this weekend. It’s located on 14th Street just north of Monroe in Columbia Heights. Anyone check it out yet?

I feel like someone should give out a grant so these signs can be refurbished, yeah?

Thanks again to DC realtor Kevin Wood for compiling this list of home/condo sales for zip codes – 20011, 20010, 20009 and 20001. Click below on “December Sales” for the full list in pdf format. There is surprisingly a ton of activity. Please let me know if there are other zipcodes you’d like included in future home sales reports.

“In the Washington Times, Market Inn in SW is closing down tonight, that landlord apparently has other plans.”
I had Nichole check it out and it turns out, sadly to be true:
It’s true. According to the Times’ article:
Owner Carl Mandis hadn’t planned on closing the family business that was started by his mother and father, Hilda and John Mandis, in November 1959. But the property owners’ new lease demand, which includes higher payments and a shorter renewal period, made it impractical to continue business, Mr. Kipp said.
The property owners plan to raze the building to make way for office space, he said.
In addition, the legendary nude paintings and other furnishings and memorabilia are being auctioned off. If you have any interest, the link is here.
This makes me sad. I recall having a couple of work meetings over lunch here a few years ago which were reminiscent of Charlie Wilson’s Washington. (Though perhaps not as much as the working lunches we occasionally had at Archibald’s.) They also had a great brunch here. Market Inn will be missed.
Any fans of Market Inn out there?

This condo is located at 1812 Wyoming Ave., NW in Adams Morgan:
The flier says:
“Improved Price! Elegant main level of gracious Kalorama townhome, Prvt entrance (above street lvl), lrg windows, tall ceilings, Raised Dining area, renov galley kit w/ granite/stainless (Bosch refrig), MBR w/ MBA & expansive outdoor deck, W/ D in unit, 2nd BR/Den w/ period mantel/FP, Conveniently located in Kalorama/Adams Morg, Harris Teeter, restaurants/shops all close.”
More info and a virtual tour can be found here.
While the photo I took says 1812 I believe this particular unit is located in the rowhome next door. (Those are the photos from Redfin.) That is a pretty wild building in the photo above. I guess there is a staircase in the middle of that structure? Anyway, back to the condo – it looks pretty sweet from the virtual tour. It’s also a stone’s throw from 18th Street. So do you think the new price of $524,000 sounds reasonable?
You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend? Is it brutal being back at work? Two more weeks to another long weekend…
