I really dig the circular window and the bay window above it.

I really dig the circular window and the bay window above it.

A reader would like to know if there are any updates on this space adjacent to the new Allegro project on Meridian and 14th Street:
“It is on the meridian side of the development. It’s several stories with large glass windows and looks nice. A commenter on the 12/18 Allegro posting said that a construction worker said it was going to be a restaurant.”
I did notice that it looks nearly completed but I’m not sure what’s slated to go in. Does anyone know if it’ll be a restaurant? If so what kind?

This sign really cracks me up. It’s all about the fingers. I found it on H Street, NE.

Well, it’s been a month since the last update and it seems to be coming along very nicely. I was most struck but the silver things up top. Do you think these are just for style or function or both? Do you like they way they look?

Towards the back of the building you can see there has been some progress on the tower type structures that are getting a white trim.

So you digging the look? I haven’t heard anymore updates on whether or not it will be rental or condo nor have I heard more retail news besides Gillian Clark’s new restaurant. I’ll keep you updated as news develops but if you guys hear anything be sure to let me know!

This one’s for the ladies. ZiZi Boutique is located at 2409 18th Street, NW. The boutique opened up about a month and a half ago and was recently featured in the Express though I couldn’t find it in their on line archives. I spoke with owner, Maimuna Burnette (pictured above) who co-owns the boutique with Janneta Daniels. The spot has a very nice open layout. It’s nice to see a place like this mixed into all the restaurants and bars. It kinda had the feel of some of the boutiques located on U Street. So if you’re looking for a locally owned boutique with some unique styles be sure to check them out.

A couple more photos after the jump. (more…)

This home is located on a really small hidden street called Brown’s Court. The exact address is 605 Brown’s Ct, SE:
The flier says:
“SWEET DELIGHTFUL CONTEMPOARY! PERFECTLY LOCATED STEPS TO EASTERN MARKET & METRO! EXTRAORDINARY LIGHT! HIGH CEILINGS! WONDERFUL EXPANSIVENESS THROUGHOUT! GORGEOUS WOOD FLOORS! GAS FIREPLACE FOR SNUGGLING! TERRIFIC MEWS SETTING.”
More info and photos found here.
This is a really open layout. What do you think of the staircase? While small this house definitely looks pretty cool. Though you do lose out on a yard and porch. I don’t know this area that well but it felt quite nice. For those in the know does $547,500 seem reasonable? Dig the house itself?

Stoney’s is located at 1433 P St. NW and is supposed to have some pretty mean burgers. I had eaten at the previous location on L Street, NW but I’ve never been to the Logan Circle spot. So are the burgers just as good here? Any other specialties that you’d recommend? The old spot had a very chill atmosphere, what’s the atmosphere like at this spot?
Updated: Per a commenter’s request, we haven’t had a best burger in DC thread yet, so in addition to noting your thoughts on Stoney’s please add your suggestion for best burger in DC.

Initially, I was pleased to see the bright yellow signs on several of the abandoned, neglected, yet architecturally and historically significant homes in my neighborhood. I’ve been interested in some of the properties for years. To me, they represent possibilities for change and revitalization.
I’m sure the DC Government feels the same way because in 2008, the Property Acquisition and Disposition Division was established. The tag line of their web page even says, “Revitalizing Communities One Home at a Time”.
The yellow signs announce in bold lettering that over thirty properties owned by DC Government will be auctioned off on the 30th of January 2009. Potential buyers are directed to the Alex Cooper Auctioneers website. I dutifully followed the crumbs and came upon the DC Gov Auction pages here: http://realestate.alexcooper.
In addition to the signs and the web page, listings of the properties have begun to appear in the local multiple listing system. The ones that I have seen indicate a list price of $20,000. The remarks clearly indicate that the price is subject to auction. You can see the listings here: http://matrix.mris.com/Matrix/
Buyers that are interested should attend the Buyer Seminar scheduled for the January 22nd, 2009. More information is available on the Alex Cooper link.
Here is some information you should be aware of before even bothering to attend the seminar: Continues after the jump. (more…)
Review Requested: Nightlife @ Napoleon on Columbia Rd. in Adams Morgan
Ed. Note: Napoleon was discussed here back in August.
The following comment from yesterday’s Dear Pop post really cracked me up. From Nita:
“Dear DC Government – thank you for your property tax bill. Once I have reviewed the bill, I issue a check in accordance with the figure as posted. The problem is that with budget cutbacks, the checkbook division does not currently have any dollars. I cannot tell you how long it will take for this problem to be remedied; but until then, I cannot pay any bills. I can review the bill, but that is all I can do for now.”
