From a press release:

“Ivy City brewery Atlas Brew Works will release its seasonal German-style Festbier in the Tap Room on Friday, August 2. Lighter in both color and body than most Oktoberfest beers, Festbier is a more drinkable lager with its sweet bread notes, orange blossom aromas, and clean yeast profile. In celebration of Festbier’s Tap Room release and the new, colorful can design, guests are invited to party with the Atlas team at The Midlands Beer Garden on Thursday, August 1. (more…)

From an email:

“In light of last week’s news about Justice Kennedy’s retirement from the Supreme Court, it is more urgent than ever that we all work together to support Democratic candidates in the upcoming Midterm Elections. To meet this goal, we are inviting you to our first Midterm Postcard Writing Party, organized by a small, concerned group of neighborhood friends, and graciously hosted by the Midlands Beer Garden, on Tuesday, July 3rd at 6pm. We know folks are looking for ways to get involved, and this is a great, low-commitment way of doing so. Did I mention there is BOGO free beer until 7pm? (more…)

Last Friday we spoke about the crackdown at Wonderland. Thanks to all who messaged about Midlands last night:

“Dear Friends, Neighbors and Dog Parents,

We deeply regret having to make this statement, but Washington DC’s Dept. of Health just paid us a visit and told us we are NO LONGER ALLOWED TO HAVE DOGS on the property until further notice. This means all dogs including Andy Pants. We are very sorry for this awful change, but we have no control over it. Write your council member, we are.

Ward 1 CM Brianne Nadeau ([email protected]) since both Midlands and Wonderland are both in her district,

Health Committee Chair Vincent Gray ([email protected]) and his committee director [email protected]

Dept. of Health Director [email protected] (cc: [email protected]).

Just put it all in the same email

Midlands & Andy”

One reader notes from the comments: “The Midlands Inspector told me that “this all stems from the Washington Post.” They supposedly put out an article or something about a complaint they received about all the dogs on patios in dc. This is what she told me.”

Ed. Note: For those who wish to debate kids in bars, you may have a refresher here, also about Midlands.

Any beers from these taps and all other proceeds will benefit Earthjustice, a nonprofit environmental law organization, fighting for action on climate change, environmental justice, and the health of our communities across the country.

In addition to drinking beers for a great cause, attendees will have the opportunity to take action and make their voices heard. The event will include stations for making rally signs for the People’s Climate March on April 29th and writing letters to lawmakers and local representatives. (more…)

Thanks to a reader for the heads up in this morning’s rant/revel – from The Midlands:

“Since we opened in November we have met many wonderful people in the community and we love that The Midlands has become a gathering place for the neighborhood. Watching the garden filled with adults, dogs and children is a wonderful sight. Sadly, we need to change our rules regarding children. We didn’t come to this decision lightly because we understand how difficult it can be for parents to find a place where their whole family is welcome. We know this because some our best friends and employees are parents. We know all you want is a relaxing place to bring your kiddo and enjoy a drink with your friends, but unfortunately there are safety concerns that have been brought to our attention. (more…)
