At long last!! Pearl’s Bagels is nearly here (on 7th Street across the street from the Convention Center near the original Passenger location.)

From the owners:

“The day has finally come and we’re going to open this Saturday!

For now, we’ll be doing contactless takeout via online pre-order (the day before) only. Once we get a handle on how many bagels to make any given day, we’ll switch to day-of ordering and ramp up to making all the sandwiches we’ve been planning over the past year. We’ll be selling assorted bagels by the half-dozen, tubs of various cream cheeses, plus “Nana’s Hot Jalapeno Spread” — Allee’s (my wife and business partner) grandmother’s specialty that’s similar to pimento cheese, but hotter and better (in our humble opinion).

We’ll also be selling two build-your-own-sandwich kits. The “Lox Box” will feature Ivy City Smokehouse novalox, Little Wild Things microgreens, capers, pickled red onions, a tomato, and cream cheese; and the “BEC Box” which will include Epic Curing bacon, a half-dozen cage-free eggs, sliced cheddar cheese and a little jar of ketchup. The anticipation for Pearl’s Bagels continues but they’ve applied for a liquor license, which reveals a few more details:

“The Establishment will be a bagel shop serving breakfast and lunch with pop-up dinners in the evenings. Seating Capacity of 15 and a Total Occupancy Load of 19.

HOURS OF OPERATION: Sunday through Saturday 7am – 10pm”

Happy to hear it’s still moving forward, anyway. Stay tuned.

From the owners:

“Construction is well underway and ‪we want to be open yesterday, but it’s looking like late March or early April. We are so honored and humbled that so many people are excited our arrival, but please don’t hold us to that date as there are many balls in the air that we don’t have control over. We can’t wait to start providing Shaw/Mount Vernon a steady supply of bagels! (more…)

Thanks to all who passed on from Pearl’s Bagels:

“The good news is that we finally received our building permits for Pearl’s Bagels and we start construction on the space next week. The bad news is that construction takes time…so it’ll still be a few months before we’re open. But fear not, we are now baking out of Union Kitchen and can take catering orders of any size. Start spreading the news!”

STAY TUNED.

Remember Hogo?

From a press release:

“Pearl’s Bagels is officially coming to the district! Husband-and-wife team Allee and Oliver Cox have signed a lease at 1017 7th Street NW for their new bagel concept “Pearl’s Bagels.” The opening date has not yet been determined, but Allee and Oliver will be working diligently to open their doors as soon as humanly possible.

Pearl’s will serve traditional bagels done right. Our aim is to provide our neighbors with fresh, delicious hand-rolled bagels and high-quality coffee for a reasonable price in a bright and inviting space. At Pearl’s, we believe bagels should be made of simple and abundant ingredients; that’s why we only use flour, water, salt, yeast, honey and a tiny bit of malt (to get that classic bagel-y flavor). Our bagels are boiled in water sweetened with honey before they are baked in a brick oven. Pearl’s was born out of nostalgia (and the craving for a tasty breakfast sandwich) and will offer all the classics, plus a selection of our own unique breakfast and lunch sandwiches. (more…)
