Thanks to Jason for sending:
“With the exception of the onions and beets, all the peppers, eggplant, and tomatoes pictured here (fresh out of the smoker) came from my neighbor’s backyard garden in Manor Park. The garlic was grown in a veggie bed at my son’s school, West Education Campus in 16th Street Heights.”
If you get a great one please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with ‘Great Garden Haul’ in the subject line along with a photo and description of your haul including what neighborhood you’re in. Try to get yours in by Labor Day. Thanks!
Thanks to Will for sending from Logan Circle.
I’ve said it before, I say it every summer actually – The Saloon is simply the best. But keep in mind there is No TV. And no standing. And we are better for it.

Takoma update: Red Line shooting suspect Jermaine Brown ordered held without bond. #wmata
— Metro Transit Police (@MetroTransitPD) August 7, 2017
“Overnight, Metro Transit Police arrested the individual wanted in connection with yesterday’s shooting aboard a Red Line train near Takoma. Jermaine Brown, 18, of Seat Pleasant, MD, was taken into custody by MTPD officers at a motel in Capitol Heights shortly before midnight. The suspect is currently charged with a single count of first-degree assault in Montgomery County.
The investigation has revealed that the shooting victim, age 14, is the half-brother of the suspect, and detectives now believe that he was not the intended target. Rather, investigators believe that the suspected shooter (Brown) was traveling with his half-brother when there was an altercation aboard the train involving Brown and three other individuals. During the affray, which was captured by digital video cameras aboard the railcar, Brown pulled a gun and fired multiple times. One round struck the victim (Brown’s half-brother); two other bullets struck the railcar.
The shooting occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday, aboard an inbound Red Line train approaching Takoma Station. (more…)

A reader writes from the 2100 block of 11th Street, NW:
“Looks like the guy was waiting across the street (inside the gated area of the common area of the Beauregard condo building) for the UPS guy to leave after dropping off the packages (we saw this from their security camera). So he comes over to my unit, grabs a box from upstairs, and two more boxes from downstairs. He takes them to the alley behind Beauregard, comes back to my house, grabs the 4th package. Takes it back to the alley behind Beauregard takes out all the stuff and leaves the empty boxes there. The still shots of him is from the security camera of the Beauregard.”
