From NPS:

“The National Park Service will drain the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool starting Sunday, June 11 for cleaning and treatment of a water-borne parasite that has affected the local duck population. The pool should be refilled and operational again on Monday, June 19.

Beginning May 20 and 21, approximately 80 ducklings have been found deceased in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Necropsy performed on the ducks by the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Wildlife Health Center suggests the cause of death was high levels of parasites that develop and grow in snails that live in the pool. Chemical treatments alone are not sufficient to fully reduce the parasite and snail population, so the pool must be drained and cleaned. (more…)

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. Your photos will go into the queue (usually 2 weeks wait) and will be posted in the order I receive them. If you’ve already entered your pet and would like to do so again – that’s no problem – just space the entries out a bit. Please try to send horizontal photos 640×480 (medium size on your iphone) if possible. If you’re not using an iphone any size is fine.

Oye, ¿como va? Santana is a “Black Magic Woman” looking to put a smooth spell of love and affection on her future humans! This fabulous feline is 8 years young and full of personality! She likes to watch the world go by outside the window, then come over for chin scratches and to make a cushion out of your laptop.

She has a very cute little meow and will reward your attention with a quiet, soothing purr and a loving gaze with her striking emerald green eyes. To meet Santana, please contact Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation: [email protected]

Cana is a beautiful pibble looking for a patient family to help her feel safe. This sensitive sweetie is very shy in new situations, but you can tell from her soft eyes that she is all love. She warms up with a gentle approach and some loving patience so for the right person she is ready to be your everything. Cana is looking for a home without cats or other small animals and with another dog her size or larger. She would prefer a home with adults where someone is home a lot. Once she trusts you, Cana will be a fabulous companion who loves to snuggle and play. She just needs someone to give her a chance and she’s hoping it will be you!

“Dear PoPville,

I’m hosting a group of my friends in DC for 4th of July weekend and am wondering what I should include on the itinerary. It will be about 10 of us total, most of whom have never spent time in DC before. They’ll be here from Friday until Tuesday so I’m trying to figure out what to plan for such a large group other than a lot of eating and drinking along with some of the Smithsonians. Any and all recommendations would be appreciated!!”

Thanks to Matt for sending: “Yikes! Closure at Thai Xing. Hopefully they open again soon.” Can anyone find the health report? I saw some disturbing video on a Facebook post and I think, if you saw it, you’d agree this was a good thing while the restaurant is treated. These are great people and so many restaurants have these issues – also hoping they are able to reopen again soon!
