Thanks to Carlos Lumpuy for sharing his awesome looking Cuban Pork Shoulder Roast Lechón Asado or Pernil Asado Recipe: Cuban Pork Shoulder Roast _ Pernil Asado Recipe (PDF)

Carlos writes:

“About five years ago I shared my recipes for Tropical Egg Nog and Chili Con Carne. It’s summer 2017 now, and I have a winner I’ve been preparing for more than 30 years, with only five ingredients prepared the night before, and slow cooked the following day.”

I thought I’d take this opportunity to ask others if they have any favorite family recipes they’d be willing to share? If you don’t have the recipe, I’d just be curious to know what’s your favorite family dish. My grandma made a mean French Onion Soup and my grandpa made a mean french toast. And we lost the french toast recipe and are still looking for the secret ingredient… What are your favorites?

If you don’t like PDFs, you can check out Carlos recipe in full after the jump. (more…)

Meridian Hill Park photo by Terry Lynch

Ed. Note: Also looks like the fountains are finally back on again!

From an email:

“On Saturday, June 3, MINT Gym and Studio is hosting a FREE outdoor bootcamp at Meridian Hill Park at 10:30 a.m., taught by our infamous Liz Harvey. It’s going to be a crazy and engaging “power playground” event that focuses on both strength and cardio. Sign up via this Eventbrite link, since the event is being held on National Park grounds and we must keep our records straight.”

“Dear PoPville,

Any Idea what is going in old Seasonal Pantry Seasonal Pantry space? The paper has come down from the windows, there is a new bar with stools, a fridge and terrariums hanging in the windows.”

Almost exactly a year ago we learned that sushi from the owners of Sushi Capitol and Sushi Ogawa would be taking over the space.  Maybe they’re getting close? Stay tuned.

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. Your photos will go into the queue (usually 2 weeks wait) and will be posted in the order I receive them. If you’ve already entered your pet and would like to do so again – that’s no problem – just space the entries out a bit. Please try to send horizontal photos 640×480 (medium size on your iphone) if possible. If you’re not using an iphone any size is fine.

“Dixie and Dora are a pair of 7-year-old bonded sisters who recently lost their home due to family financial circumstances. They have lived together their entire lives and must be adopted as a pair. Both girls are even-tempered, gentle and eager to please. They love playing with toys. They are finding life back in the shelter a little overwhelming, but are sure to blossom in a loving home. You can find out more information at: here or here or email [email protected] and let them know you’re interested in these beautiful ladies!”

“Dude is friendly, even-tempered and loving. His tail is always wagging because he loves everyone and everything — people, kids, dogs and probably even cats. He is just a lover boy. He’d be a great dog for someone who already has a dog and is looking for a companion for that dog. Dude is 8 years old and weighs 63 pounds. He was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Beaufort County. Senior dogs are great companions who don’t need a ton of exercise but provide tons of love! If you are interested in adopting Dude, please email [email protected]

“Dear PoPville,

Does anyone have experience building a greenhouse in DC and, if so, what are the issues and concerns that might arise vis-a-vis permits and zoning? I want to build a pretty nice medium-sized greenhouse in my back yard but have already hit the 60% lot coverage limit. Would such a structure count against the limit and does anyone know of a contractor with experience building greenhouses?”
