Reliable Tavern Opens Friday with Pool Tables, Kolaches and $10 Cocktails!!

reliable tavern
3655 Georgia Ave, NW

From a press release:

“Reliable Tavern, a collaboration between longtime barmen Joe Englert and Kyle Remissong as well as Langdon Hample, a local commercial real estate broker/investor, will be opening to the public on Friday, May 5, 2017 in Petworth.

Englert and Remissong, long time partners in The Big Hunt, Rock and Roll Hotel and DC 9, teamed up with Hample — who is a partner in other Englert-affiliated establishments, including Dupont’s McClellan’s Retreat and the newly opened Truxton Inn in Bloomingdale — to open this neighborhood tavern, situated at 3655 Georgia Avenue, NW, directly south of the Petworth Metro Station.

Reliable Tavern, in the heart of Petworth, is the latest addition to the neighborhood, which has seen an influx of new retail establishments. The space — formerly Capitol Locksmith, a neighborhood hardware store — was curated by Molly Allen (Republic, Barrel, McClellan’s Retreat, etc.) and features 15-foot ceilings on the first level and a hip basement, ideal for private events. The basement boasts two pools tables and a unique bar backdrop that showcases vintage 1920’s central boiler and steam pipes.
“We are so happy to be plying our trade on Georgia Ave once again,” said Englert.

Ben Alt, formerly with Convivial and most recently Himitsu (also located in Petworth) will collaborate with Benjamin Long to manage the tavern and its robust cocktail program. Long, a celebrated cocktail guru has created a “nonchalant elegance” cocktail program that will cater to guests’ individual tastes. Cocktails at $10.00, beer and wine selections range from $6 to $10, with happy hour specials every day.

Food will be available during all operating hours from Chris Svetlik’s Republic Kolache. The ‘National Pastry of Texas’ will be served alongside a selection of Tex-Mex inspired bar snacks. In future months, Republic Kolache will expand its offerings to include a brunch on the weekends. “Our team recently partnered with Svetlik at the Truxton Inn; here Republic Kolache will have a more permanent presence with dedicated interior space for their operations,” said Hample.

Reliable Tavern will be open from 5pm to 2am, Sunday through Thursday with 3am closure on Friday and Saturday nights.”
