A company called GlamSquad just opened up in DC and are offering $25 off first bookings; DCLOVE. May be worth trying out, especially if you’re worried about costs.

    • rctran

+1 For GlamSquad. I’ve used them several times in NYC, and they were always reliable and provided amazing service. They offer airbrush makeup, too.

Renee at Fringe hair studio is great

  • Kelsey

I highly recommend Locks and Lace http://www.locksandlacestyling.com/about/

Carissa is a fantastic hair stylist and she works with a makeup artist she knows from working at a downtown hair salon

    • SweetBabyRae

Carissa is the best! I highly recommend her!

  • FtLincolnLove

Styled By Anna Fazio! http://www.styledbyannafazio.com/ She did the hair and makeup for the groomsmaids at my best friend’s wedding- she’s PHENOMENAL!

    • bll

I was actually going to recommend her as well. She did two friend’s weddings, and I wanted to use her for our wedding but the dates didn’t match.

      • Emi G

I got married in October and Anna did my hair and that of my mom and bridesmaids. Everyone was super happy with it!

  • DupontDC

Makeup by Ana B will come to your house and do both services. I highly recommend!

  • NDchick1

I think my stylist, Frankie @ The Studeo, does house calls for hair and makeup.

  • LK

I used http://www.premieremakeup.com/. Morgan and Dani were the makeup artist and hair stylist I worked with and they were awesome!

  • L

I used Julie Flury from Jewel Hair Design. Can’t say enough good things about her.

  • elyse

I’m pretty sure Stylist to Go http://www.stylisttogo.com/ would come to your home. I thought they were great.

I highly Recommend Kristen Foster Hair Artistry (you can look up her website or her WeddingWire account). I not only used to work with her at a salon (she has since become a full time nurse and has her wedding business on the side), but I just used her for my wedding in November and everything turned out amazing. Her prices are very reasonable (for the wedding industry) and she’s super chill and fun to work with. If you have questions or would like me to connect you, just let me know!

Wife gave glowing reviews for stylemebar. Ladies came to the apartment for a trial hair run-through prior to our wedding (for an added but worthwhile cost). Then, ladies came to our DC wedding hotel for both hair and make-up.

I used Stylist to Go for my wedding – but found them to be a little hit or miss. The scheduling was kind of annoying, they canceled my trial at the last minute and did not want to give me the contact info of my stylists in advance (which i needed for my day of coorindator’s spreadsheet). I got a great makeup artist and an ok hair stylist, but its totally based on availability and schedule (and I think they could have switched my trial and wedding day people – although they were able to match me with the same ones luckily.).

However I got a second hair stylist for my bridesmaids (she does not do makeup though) who was great – I’ve referred her to two friends who are both using her for their weddings – Tress Hairstyling by VyVy. Their hair looked great, stayed in all night, and was very reasonably priced for DC. She did six bridesmaids hair with an assistant in maybe 4 hours?

I used TC Beauty for my wedding – I loved them so much. They were amazing and pretty affordable.

I used Bridal Artistry – http://www.bridalartistrydc.com/ – and they were fantastic! Ky did makeup and Jacinda did hair for my entire bridal party. They came to us at the hotel and it was amazing.

      Me too!

  • I would recommend skipping it altogether and just doing your own hair and makeup. I’ve gone to at least 3 weddings with a hired make-up & hair person and everyone just looked terribly overdone and basically ghastly. If you don’t normally use foundation, you might play around with some now to try out shades etc. But otherwise, just go with your normal “dress up” makeup.

While I think everyone should decide this for him/herself, I will say that I strongly disagree! I did a LOT of DIY for my wedding, but this was one area that I wasn’t willing to attempt it (despite being very proficient at updos and makeup application). My reasons were several: first, I have seen wedding hair and makeup done really well (and really poorly, I totally understand your point!), but I think if you communicate a lot with your stylist (and feel like he/she’s hearing you), you can definitely get a more natural look. Second, a professional knows how to do makeup so that it looks good in photos and hair so that it stays put all day and night. How the makeup looks in person is going to look different in photos (think stage makeup). A true pro will minimize that difference, but it may look like you’re wearing “a lot” of makeup in person, whereas in photos it looks completely natural (that’s how I would argue my photos turned out). Personally, I would choose makeup that looks best in photos because that’s what you’ll have to remember your day by for the rest of your life. Third, it was one more task that I did not want to be stressing about on the morning of my wedding! I got great advice from a friend not to attempt anything DIY that would have to be done the day of the wedding (flowers, set up, hair/makeup, etc.) because it’ll stress you out when you should be enjoying the happiest day of your life!

  • AVEnue

This is so timely as I have the exact same question! Thank you for all the recommendations, everyone.

  • Claire

Whitney from Metro Elegance was really easy to work with and everyone was happy with her work.

  • bobby

    Blend Makeup.

Also, go on weddingwire.com All of the stylists travel and do house calls.

  • Monica

For makeup Marquia Kinard of Blend Makeup Artistry was amazing!!! She’all definitely come to you – not sure if there might be a minimum number of services you need to have though.

  • Laura

Sallie Keena is wonderful! And very reasonably priced. If you are in the D.C. Area she will travel to you at no charge.

  • LittleRockAR

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! This is so helpful

  • Beth

I used Behind the Veil for myself, my bridesmaids, and my mom. They were great! http://behindtheveilbeauty.com/

  • DK

I used Kris Clark for my DC wedding and she came to me to do both a trial and for wedding day hair and makeup for 6 of us! She’s a total pro – we all got the look we wanted and looked great. I would highly recommend her.
