I guess it will stay an embassy or be cut up into condos. It doesn’t seem to have any parking, which people would expect of a home like that.

  • eva

Why is Gabon selling its Embassy??

    • Philippe Lecheval

Who knows. Their economy relies primarily on oil exports, so maybe they need to downgrade.

Damnit! I was hoping to snag this under the radar.

No single family is going to buy this. It would be a fantastic location for boutique condos. It could be purchased by another embassy for a diplomatic property (such as an ambassador’s residence) and would not need that much reno.
Kazakhstan purchased an ambassador’s residence for $5.5 million which is crazy for that country. As a percentage of GDP, it would be like the US State Dept. purchasing an overseas ambassador’s home for over $200 million. So it’s certainly not out of the question for a smaller country to purchase as a residence rather than an embassy.

    • Aaaaaaaaaaaaand you’ve just sent me down a rabbit hole googling GDPs around the world. Good bye afternoon, I had planned to get so much accomplished today …

    • Steve

Name of the game is prestige and power. Who cares what the GDP is when you are a country with tremendous natural resources and right in the middle of the oil action? I”m surprised they didn’t build a $10M property.

  • Actually seems like a good deal.

What impeccable timing! And here I was in the middle of house hunting thinking I may have to choose between a residence with either a gift-wrapping room OR a dedicated display room for my Hummel figurine collection! Now I can have BOTH!
Finally, a genuine option for civilized urban living…

    • bll

HA! although in a dire situation a gift wrapping room always wins. just ask candy spelling.

      • I Dont Get It

Wow second Candy Spelling reference of the week.

        • bll

get out! I didn’t even see the first one, but a candy spelling reference is always appropriate.

Anyone else picturing a photo op with the ambassador of Gabon and John Kerry being interrupted by a realtor showing a couple the fireplace and original staircase?

  • I Dont Get It

Those ugly curtains probably cost more than my house.

  • shaw

I say we start tweeting the old cast members of Full House or The Facts of Life and let them know a property where they can relive their glory days with all their old castmates also in residence has finally come to market….

  • Harry

Now if only the Panamanians would sell their Residence. It’s the most attractive house in the city, as far as I’m concerned.

What I remember about this embassy is that a few years ago, when I lived right near it, it was firebombed after an election was held in the embassy’s country which didn’t turn out the way somebody wanted. Maybe they are moving to a more secure building?
