Eckington is located at the very west edge of Northeast, across the street from Bloomingdale. The two neighborhoods are physically separated by North Capitol Street (which literally has barriers up to prevent people from crossing the busy street at non-intersections). The legal subdivision of Eckington actually crosses that barrier into Northwest, as it includes the Florida/Rhode Island/North Cap triangle, however, the Eckington neighborhood is generally considered to be the part that is in NE, bounded by Rhode Island Ave to the north, Florida Ave to the south, and the Metro and rail tracks to the east.

The south part of the neighborhood (R Street, Q Street, Quincy) features late 19th century Victorian bay front brick rowhomes similar to those found in Bloomingdale. The rest of the neighborhood is populated by porch front homes similar to the subject property, as well as several multi-unit buildings, some of which are condo and some rental.

Since the beginning of 2014, there have been 23 sales of fee simple houses ranging in price from $345,000. for an AS IS deal that needed renovation, on up to a house on North Capitol Street NE that went for $810,000. Median net sold price for houses in the neighborhood so far in 2014 is $561,650.
