I’m hoping to enlist your help in getting the word out to DC residents that they can support the cause to re-open the doors of Youth Court of DC. YCDC utilizes a nationally recognized model to provide alternative peer-imposed sentencing to first-time (non-violent) juvenile offenders in DC. Despite the great success of the program, YCDC lost its funding when its federal grants expired and had to shut its doors in October.
I’m part of a committee of DC residents, lawyers and YCDC leadership working to restore the funding. This story has gotten some media coverage but we want to spread the word even further to encourage people to sign the petition we just issued. Here’s a link to the petition.
YCDC holds the juvenile offenders accountable for their actions while giving them the tools to make better decisions in the future.”
