From MPD:

“Just after 10 am today, units received a call for shots fired in the 1300 blk of Taylor St NW. Upon arrival, it was determined an unknown subject possibly operating a tan vehicle (unknown make/model) fired a weapon. An unoccupied parked vehicle received damage as a result. There are no injuries and Detectives and Officers are canvassing the area. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-888-919-CRIM(E).”

  • Funny. I’ve been home all morning at 13th & Randolph and didn’t hear any gunshots. Of course, I’ve been babysitting our 6 month old, who is kind of a shrieker.

    • you can’t babysit your own child

      • I’m sorry for the snark- I tried to stop from posting it after I clicked post. It’s just a pet peeve of mine, but I don’t need to share that.

I hope you continue to not hear any gunshots because there aren’t any and that your 6 month old takes a long nap :)

Ha ha. I have used this term before also when referring to my own children. I think it is common with father’s that don’t often fly solo with the new additions. I remember my wife was out of town for something and my mother in law insisted that the baby not stay with me. I was quite offended, actually.

@ equi: I despise it when I hear men say this as well. i have only heard it from men – and it irks me everytime.

I had a friend who used to say this. When I tried to explain why watching your own child is not babysitting… he didn’t get it.

I started to give up.. then realized he would get it if I changed the topic to pets. When I asked if he was pet-sitting their dogs when his wife went out of town, he got offended. I asked him why… and I saw the light bulb go off for him. he never voived the reason… but I have never heard him say it again – he now says he is “watching the baby”.

          Squirrel jail. Justice.

Your last line made me laugh out loud! Thanks for that.

I have heard the “babysitting” thing from women, too, saying that their husbands were babysitting. It bugs the hell out of me (I’m a man), because it (moreso somehow coming from a woman) implies a lesser role for the father in parenting…. semantics, I suppose.

        • I would be quite offended as well.

Really f*cking great. That’s on the route I use to take my kid to school every morning, though about an hour earlier than this.

I actually live on that street. If you’ve walked that block or live there, you know of the awful yellow house on the north side of the street. The perp was shooting at them. The damn cops need to clear that house out once and for all. They’re a clear drug house.

There are a lot of children who live on that street and they shouldn’t have to deal with violence from these damn animals.

    • Anonymous

I know exactly which house you mean. They remain a blight on the block and have GOT to go.

      • Where to Turn

Reach out to Councilmember Bowser’s office (through ANC Chair Joe Vaughn if you like) to have the house placed on the nuisance property list.

    • Huh?

The MPD announcement states that a weapon was fired at a parked vehicle in the 1300 block of Taylor. In what way does that prove that the ‘perp was shooting at them’? Were you there and saw it happen? I know which house you’re talking about but how do you know this wasn’t something unrelated to that house?

      • Resident

Because after the shots were fired, I went outside of my home and talked to a police officer, who explained that residents of the yellow house were the target.

But to be honest, I didn’t need the officer to tell me. I have lived on this block for going on 10 years. If something bad happens, 9 times out of 10, it has to do with that house.

        • Huh?

          Ah-ha, thanks.

Ditto to what Where To Turn said, esp if you’ve had 10 years to learn that about your block. Stay safe!

I spend a few hours on this street almost every afternoon. Pretty sure I know which house this is. Def some sketch going down on that block.

Just another example of what the leaders in DC tolerate. Neighbors know, cops know, rival crews know, bullets flying, and they still tolerate it. I guess risk of death from guns is the price we have to pay to live here in the nation’s capital.

Risk of death from guns? How impersonal and exonerating. How about risk of death from criminal scumbags?

  • wobber

    When’s the next ANC meeting?

    • Joseph M. Vaughan

Good afternoon all and thanks for your concerns. This issue is one of enforcement and direct outreach to the residents of 1321 Taylor ST. I know some of the residents and will reach out to them directly. Obviously, criminal activity is a matter for law enforcement to deal with, but there are community based solutions as well. ANC 4C meets at Petworth Library on the second Wednesday of each month, and all are welcome to attend.

  • Let’s organize and do something about this. I walk that street every morning with my dog and know of that house. The next meeting is on Wednesday at the Petworth library.

  • Another neighbor

Oh, wonderful. I live across the street from the infamous yellow house and must have been out there moments before this happened. When my alarm woke me up at ten today I realized my car was parked on the wrong side of the street and ran out in a panic to move it before it got towed. I saw people standing outside the yellow house, and then a few minutes later a ton of cops showed up, but I didn’t really care to stick around and see what was going on as I was still in my pajamas and half asleep. Glad I missed the gunshots, that would have been an unpleasant way to wake up. Yuck. Hope we can get something done about this. Like others said, everyone on the block knows this house is a problem. In fact, one of the first things I learned from my neighbors when I moved here was that lots of drug dealing goes on at the yellow house and it’s wise to stay away from it.
