There’s a green, graffiti’d post office box on the corner of 10th & Quebec NW. It’s not a mailbox that customers can deposit mail into, and I’ve never seen the postal carriers use it.
Trash and broken glass accumulate around and under it all the time. It’d be great if USPS could just take it away, but I have no idea how we could even request that — my inquiries to USPS have gone unanswered. I emailed our ANC rep (Vann-Di Galloway) and Brandon Todd’s office, and while they said they’d look into it the box is still there.
Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks!
AwesomeCon’s Kickstarter has just three days remaining, and they’re at $44k of their $50k goal. Please consider supporting their effort to expand the convention and grow it into a real DC annual tradition:
Yep, they’re back, and earlier than usual. After many years in a high-rise this will be our second summer in our house dealing with those heinous little pests — and it’ll likely be worse this year due to our mild winter.
Any tips on how to keep away and/or kill mosquitos? We are ensuring we don’t have standing water on our property so they can’t breed in there, but I can see some neighbors who are sadly not as attentive. My wife wants enviro-friendly options, but I’m less picky… I just want ’em dead.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
David Tumblin, the current Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4C06 Commissioner, is resigning (see his statement below). I’ve only been in the neighborhood for under a year, but I’ve found David to be a terrific advocate for our little slice of ANC 4C (map: http://anc4c.org/map.html).
So thank you, David! And if anyone living in 4C06 is interested in picking up the baton, now’s your chance…
“I cannot express how much it has meant to meet so many incredible people in the neighborhood, and to see how we worked together to eliminate crime issues, get rid of so many vacant properties, get the Raymond and Safeway projects started, finish and open 3910 Georgia and the Mary’s Center, and get movement on 1125 Spring and the Goins space at Georgia and Shepherd. It is an unbelievable honor to support you.
Alas, I need to step down, so I can spend more time with my family and on my new job.
Please let me know if you are interested in running for the ANC position. Make note: it is a voluntary position, and it is like a second full-time job, but it is an ideal way to thank the neighbors for being who they are.
If there is sufficient interest in filling this voluntary position, we could go for an election during one of the ANC meetings. It is an abbreviated process.”
Anyone know of someone in the area who does wood furniture refinishing? We have a large 50s-era bookshelf unit (from my mother-in-law) that’s in good shape overall, but could really benefit from being stripped and refinished.
Not so much a question as a request: On Dec. 5, 1933, Prohibition was lifted. Tip one back tonight in honor of a time when our government could admit mistakes, and correct them.
