Why aren’t there bike lanes in Foggy Bottom/West End?
I recently joined bikeshare for the first time. Prior to that, I had never ridden a bike in the city, so I don’t know if this has been an issue that’s been discussed before. I recently biked from Captiol Hill to Foggy Bottom and back on a few occassions and was really surprised at the complete lack of bike lanes west of the White House.
If you look on the bikeshare map, there are lanes criss-crossing much of the city, but Foggy Bottom just seemed like a black hole. It was particularly odd compared to the super awesome lanes on the other side of Penn. Luckily, the first time I encountered this, I was riding up Penn on a Saturday so there weren’t any cars, but that’s definitely not the case on weekdays. I’ve gone down quieter, less direct streets instead when I’ve done that ride at busier times, but still no bike lanes. Why??? Am I missing something?
