What to buy a 90 year old for Christmas?

I’m struggling with what to buy my 90 year old grandfather for Christmas. He’s still independent and even drives! What do you buy a 90 year old? He has everything, or the money to buy anything he wanted but lives modestly because he grew up during the depression and served in the Army during WWII. Any ideas out there?

cashmeresocks.com – I get a pair for my grandmother every year.  She loves them!

Experiences.  A nice meal (with you or a friend), a show, a museum tour.

A small bottle of the booze he drank when he was young. You’ll get some great stories and he gets a great chance to reminisce and be a host.

I would say a gift certificate to his local coffee shop or restaurant that he frequents.  Otherwise a generous donation in his name to the local VFW or his place of worship.

I like to adopt rhinos or bats for my granparents who are very comfortable and have down sized.
Here’s where you can adopt a rhino: http://www.rhinos-irf.org/adoptarhino/ (my Granpa still talks about this gift, he loved it).
Here’s where you can adopt a bat: http://www.batcon.org/index.php/support-bci/adopt-a-bat.html?RedirectMemType=ado&utm_campaign=adopt&utm_source=external&utm_medium=redirect&RedirectMemType=ado&utm_campaign=adopt&utm_source=external&utm_medium=redirect

Donation to a veterans group.

Thanks for the recs guys. He doesn’t drink booze and he’s not active in the local veteran’s group so looks like I’ll get him a gift certificate to his favorite restaraunt. He will then proceed to ask me to dinner and spend the gift certificate on me. Oh, I love him.

Give him the gift of legacy and interview him for the Veterans History Project.  http://www.loc.gov/vets/kit.html  He might not like the idea at first but his story is very important to us all.

I’ve given charitable donations in my grandparents’ honor for the past few years.  They choose the organizations.  This kind of gift also reminds me to amp up my year-end giving!
