What kind of plant is this?

This is my second summer in my house.  The previous owner was very much a gardner, so I’ve been lucky to have a ton of perennials return in the garden.  My question is, does anyone know what kind of plant (or weed) this is?  Last summer, multiple came up and grew 2-3 feet tall.  I wasn’t sure, so I pulled them out by the root.  This year, it looks like I have 3 more.  If it’s a weed, I should probably pull it, right?

It looks like a palm.  It seems much more weed than not to me.

A weed is any plant that you don’t want around. Do you want it? If so, then it is a weed.

Looks like a Bromeliad, though not sure what kind.  Compare with a google image search http://bit.ly/16SdmRt

Or maybe a Sempervivum or a Sedum? Those are pretty tough, and widely available.

Seeing the upper part of the plant I guess It’s a pinneapple plant.

It does look like a bromeliad, or a lily that got frosted/scorched when it first came up. You might ask the experts here http://extension.umd.edu/hgic – you can send them a picture of the plant.

There is a Flickr group “What Plant is That” where you post plant pictures and botantists idenity the plant for you. http://www.flickr.com/groups/whatplantisthat/

Not likely a bromeliad or pineapple as we are not in the tropics! To me it looks like some kind of lily coming up from a bulb. My guess would be some kind of oriental lily, maybe even an Easter lily (people get as a gift and then plant in their yards. Let it grow and see what happens!
