Topic: Rabid Raccoons
A raccoon that was barely breathing was picked up by DC Animal Control on June 5, 2012 on the 1400
block of Hamilton St. NW and was determined to be rabid after testing. This is the third incidence of rabid raccoons in this area of NW in the past two months.
If you see an animal that appears to be sick or is behaving strangely, please
call DC Animal Control at 311. Do not feed or touch wild animals and make sure
your pets’ vaccinations are up to date.

Maria Hille, the DOH employee who let me know that the animal I found was rabid, is terrific. She was very concerned and helpful. She was in my neighborhood with flyers within a couple of hours of our conversation.
