No Parking Signs

Are there rules about where/how to post temporary no parking signs (i.e. the ones that people use for moves or storage units or that companies can use for construction)? A couple have been posted on cones across the street from us, but it seems that they could just be moved at will to another part of the street or another block. I can’t find any info on the DMV or DDOT websites.

If I remember correctly, those signs include the block number and street name.

My vague recollection is that you’re not supposed to post them on trees and that you’re supposed to take them down after the scheduled time period, but beyond that, I don’t remember much. (When I was posting signs for my moving van, I put signs on one streetlight and (carefully, tied with twine) on two trees — there was nowhere else to put them.

I thought only the ones with the QR codes were legal now?
