Motorcycle stolen and recovered – but what about police report?
I wanted to share with you what happened to me. I live on the 1XXX block of North Capitol and the other day, I walked out of my house only to find my motorcycle missing. It has been stolen.
As I started the long wait for the cops to show up to take a report, I decided to walk around the neighborhood.
I found the bike in a small alley about a block away. The thieves tampered with the ignition but failed to get the bike started and just left it there. Pics:
It has been about 2 hours at this point and the cops did not show up yet. I called them back and explained what happened. I asked if I should still file a report for my benefit, or for the benefit of the city. They said ‘no’ and just cancelled my request for a cop to shop up to take the report.
I’m happy to have my motorcycle back, but the experience leaves me wondering just how many thefts there are that never get reported because something similar happens.
It is DCPD standard policy to simply disregard major property crimes if the goods are recovered?
