Love to Sing? Available on Tuesday Nights? Join Runnymede Singers!
Runnymede Singers is a small, non-religious chorus of amateurs who love to sing. We have a range of music skills from sight-readers to shower singers and a range of ages from student loans to AARP. We don’t require auditions; we’re especially looking for men, but all are welcome. We are a relaxed group sharing the goal of singing as well as we can and having fun doing so. We are assisted by our conductor and pianist, who are both professionals and help us to learn and polish our performances. Our rehearsals are held on Tuesday nights from 6:45 to 8:45 (with a tea & cookie break in the middle) at First Baptist Church, 16th & O Streets NW. (We are not part of the church. They rent a rehearsal room to us.) Our first rehearsal for the Spring semester will be held on January 24, 2012.
We work on a wide variety of music and perform about 2-3 times during our fall and spring semesters. In the spring, we might sing anything from Italian madrigals and classical pieces to Gershwin, Berlin, showtunes, spirituals, and rock. Each semester, we also want to make a difference in our community, so we perform at retirement or nursing homes. The spring semester starts in January and ends before Memorial Day.
Because we do not sell tickets to our performances, members contribute as we are able to cover the costs for the conductor, the pianist, the rehearsal room and new music, etc. The average cost is about $150 per semester. But please don’t let this stop you from joining us – some of us pay more than others, some less. We don’t want anyone to stay away because they cannot pay the whole amount.
If you want to have more music in your life, whether you’re an experienced, polished singer or you love to sing but haven’t in a while, you will be welcomed. Please email Charles Taylor at [email protected] if you’re interested in joining, have more questions or just want to talk to a member.
