Fruit tree orchard
We just wanted to extend an invitation out to our public fruit orchard planting TODAY, starting at 9am, at Wangari Gardens. We’re planting around 40 fruit trees that will be completely accessible to the public, including all of you! All the trees are low maintenance, amazing fruit trees that grow really well in the DC area, but are not well known, like pawpaws, figs, persimmons, etc. We’re also planting an additional 50 edible and supportive plants in the orchard to support the trees as a forest garden. We’ll be teaching the importance and advantages of forest gardens and how to create one. We’re also designing the garden into the shape of a circular Mandela Garden. It’s going to be a fun and educational experience. Plus we’ll have breakfast and lunch!
Also in the afternoon, we will be having our second community interest and input meeting. We want to make this garden a reflection of the community’s interest and needs so it would be great if you can come out and let your voice be heard about what you want to see with this space.
Hope to see everyone!
