Favorite NYC hotels?

Hi, all–might anyone have some favorite hotels in Manhattan? Not in the Plaza or Waldorf price range–more like $200-250 a night.

I just stayed at the Embassy Suites in Chelsea. I want to say it was on 24th, and it was pretty nice for the price range. It was just a few blocks from the high line and there was plenty of street parking, which was a plus since we drove. The room was reasonably nice and there was breakfast included. My boyfriend’s family stayed at Distrikt in Times Square but I think that was on the pricier end, but it was definitely nice.

Just stayed at the Eventi, a new Kimpton hotel, last week. A little above that price range but very nice, and a nice wine reception each night 5-6pm. The view from my room on the 23rd floor was WOW.

The Larchmont Hotel in Greenwich Village is an intereesting and affordable (by NYC standards). Not all of the rooms are super traditional with some shared bathrooms, no tvs, etc, but a great option for some who plan to spend little time actually in their hotel room. http://www.larchmonthotel.com/

I just stayed at Comfort Inn, Manhattan Bridge because it was crazy-cheap. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60763-d1383001-Reviews-Comfort_Inn_Manhattan_Bridge-New_York_City_New_York.html It looks terrible on the outside (the pic on the TripAdvisor site makes it look better), but the lobby was new and the rooms were newly renovated. It overlooked the Manhattan Bridge, was close to Brooklyn, and was super super close to Chinatown/other neighborhoods, and the subway. I’d definitely go back —

I’ve stayed at the Club Quarters hotel – small rooms, but cheap and good service.  The one on/near Wall Street is close to a million subway stops so it’s easy to get around, but the location is pretty boring a void of entertainment.  I’ve wanted to stay at The Jane (http://www.thejanenyc.com/) because it looks interesting and affordable!

Thanks, everyone! Very helpful.

Have you considered Airbed and Breakfast?  http://www.airbandb.com.   I’ve had friends use it quite successfully.  Of course you have to really check the place out and ask lots of questions.

Totally forgot about Airbnb! Great suggestion. Thanks.
