DC Apartments that don’t charge “pet rent”?

Does anyone know of an apartment management company out there that does not charge this ridiculous “pet rent” fee? I can get behind the idea of a pet security deposit, but paying a monthly fee for owning a pet is silly, and I just won’t do it. Any leads would be appreciated!

I don’t think any William C Smith buildings charge pet rent.  At least, the two I have lived in have not.

I don’t think RAM buildings do either. I live in a Navy Yard building that doesn’t charge pet rent.

Your best bet for avoiding a pet fee may be to rent a condo, or rent from a landlord who only owns a few houses/units.  That said, I think Park Crest in Glover Park has a reasonable one-time pet fee/deposit. A friend of mine lives at Dominion Plaza in Arlington and I don’t believe that she pays a monthly fee either.

Bernstein Management Corp (http://www.bmcproperties.com/) does not charge pet rent, and the pet deposit itself is reasonable.
