Courses/Certification for Teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language
I’d like to obtain a certificate that would permit me to teach English to non-English speakers. I want a classroom experience, not an online course, in the form of intensive instruction in a course that runs 4 to 6 weeks.
I have found several and would like to know if any Popvillians have any experience in taking this type of course. Both AU ($10,000) and Georgetown ($4,000) have their own intensive programs, but they are very expensive. A few language instruction companies offer programs here in DC for somewhat less. I am looking at Oxford Seminars (6 consecutive weekends 9-5/$2,000) and Learning House (1 month, M-F, daily 9-5?$2,500).
The main, initial qualification is called the CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) or Cert TESOL (Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language). Does anyone know if one certification is better than the other?
