RISERS is a short film and portrait series which explores the cultural identity of young undocumented immigrants in Washington, DC. The short film captures immigrant youth at a unique moment in their lives – unsure whether their immigration status shall be legalized as they embark on their college educations and careers. The film centers around Brenda Perez and Gerson Quinteros whose lives and stories are emblematic of the mission for immigration reform. The viewer witnesses how two young inspirational youth activists can not only rally their peers, but also educate us all on the challenges and complexities of undocumented life.
Andy Fernandez was born in Washington, DC and raised in Arlington, VA. The son of Bolivian immigrants, he has a deep appreciation for the immigrant experience. RISERS is his first short film.
