I go to Lee Medical Associates at 618 I Street NW in Chinatown, (202) 842-1118. [Give them a call; they may or may not be accepting new patients right now.] While I am usually seen by Dr. Andrew Lee, I have also been seen by Dr. Renee Chen Lee. They’re great GPs. I was recommended to the practice by some friends and co-workers.
I’m afraid you won’t have much choice, as almost all of the Primary Care Physicians around here are booked and aren’t taking new patients.
It took me six years to find one that was available and located in the District– this practice is fairly new so there might be an opening still:
Dr. Natallia Shotashvili
Comprehensive Primary Care
2639 Connecticut Ave C-100 Washington, DC 20008
I’m not thrilled with Comprehensive Primary Care in general– they’re a bit disorganized and never answer the phone– but Dr. Shotashvili is pretty good. Good luck with your search!
Northwest Nurse Practitioners sounds like what you are looking for. It’s a small practice of two (female) nurse practitioners who offer all the same services as a standard GP, plus travel medicine. It is very personable and I’ve never had more comprehenisve care! http://www.nwnursepractitioners.com/
110% recommend Dr Tiffani Lucas at Contemporary Family Medicine in Friendship Heights (very close to the metro). They’re great and do everything the average healthy woman would need – I’ve recommended a few people. Small office, and very clean and comfortable (my first doc in DC was the opposite..ick). I trust her and have never felt judged, which is – to me – hard to come by in PC docs!

Sylvia Medley, formerly of Q St. MDs., just opened her own practice in Foggy Bottom. I would recommend her, and I’m sure she’s taking new patients.
I was in the same position as you a few months ago–I was new in town and needed a new doctor, preferably a woman. I have the federal Blue Cross/blue Shield basic plan and some doctors I called weren’t taking new BCBS patients because I guess they recently changed their compensation sturcture for doctors and made it worse for them. Anyway I ended up with Elizabeth Wheaton. She might come as as brusque but she’s just sort of matter-of-fact about things. The other doctor in her practice that I originally tried to go to but won’t take new BC/BS patients is Lisa Kaufman. I ended up liking Dr. Wheaton and I think she did a good job and I’ll probably stick with her, even though now that I’m in the practice, I could switch to Kaufman. But Kaufman comes highly recommended from other people, so I think you’d be good with either one. The office # is 202-833-7051, and it’s located at 1145 19th St NW.
