Book Launch Thursday: Kalifornsky Project – Old Stories and the iPad
On Thursday, we’ll launch the Kalifornsky Project – Old Stories and the iPad with a book party. Katherine McNamara has brilliantly captured the stories and thoughts of Peter Kalifornsky, the late Dena’ina Athabaskan writer, and one of the last speakers of his language in Alaska.
Katherine McNamara, a pioneer in bringing books to vivid life online, has captured the stories of Peter Kalifornsky, one of the last native speakers of Alaska’s Dena’ina Athabaskan language. In this dazzling series, Katherine highlights Peter’s perseverance to honor and restore the indigenous language and culture of an Alaskan community.
Kalfornsky was nearly the last speaker of his oral language and was its first writer; a writer in every sense we know, a man with a literary sensibility, trained as a boy in the old stories. Katherine McNamara was his secretary; he told her the “back story.” With skilled co-workers, she is installing his great body of knowledge on the iPad, four volumes of From the First Beginning, When the Animals Were Talking.
Please do join us for a demonstration of From the First Beginning on the iPad, sweet-and-savories, and refreshing drink.
