What is Higher Achievement?
A rigorous year-round academic enrichment program for middle school students in DC area.
o Students enter Higher Achievement with an average GPA of 2.3 and graduate with 3.8!
o Culminates in top high school placement.
How long is the commitment?
Late September to Early May. 6:00 — 8:15pm; Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday. + 1 lesson prep/week.
What kind of support is provided?
Orientation before beginning and continued training opportunities throughout the year. Assistant Center Director each site’s main responsibility to working with the mentors to provide guidance and support. All curriculum and materials are provided for you.
Is there a background check or other requirements?
Yes, all volunteers working with youth must complete a fingerprint background check and TB test prior to starting. Organization will provide more information on how to complete these tasks.
Will I work with the same students all year?
Yes, you will work with the same 3-4 students all year. Many mentors choose to come back year-to-year to continue to working with their assigned scholars.
