Topic: BACKPACK DRIVE
According to the latest research, three out of ten children in the District live in poverty, placing them at risk for higher rates of school dropout, unemployment, and poverty in their future. According to the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), only 58.6 percent of the 5,058 students in the class of 2011 obtained high school diplomas within four years. The national rate is about 75 percent. What can we do to help?
The Columbia Heights/Shaw Collaborative is having a backpack and school supply drive. We are soliciting donations from neighborhood vendors in the form of monetary donations or backpacks and supplies for our event on the 15th of September. Donations can be dropped off at Tynan Coffee or you can email me at [email protected] to arrange pick up. THANK YOU!
