Any PoPville bat house success stories?

Working in the yard this weekend, I’ve already noticed a few mosquitoes, and am dreading the inevitable invasion.
Anyone out there have success with a bat house?  We’re thinking of adding one to our Petworth rowhouse roof, but wondering if it’s worth the effort.

I’d say it’s not worth the effort. Bats are opportunistic eaters – they eat mosquitoes but also other insects and won’t make a dent that you’d notice in your mosquito population. The tiger mosquitos are mostly out during the daytime which isn’t when bats are out and about.

Bats are good pollinators too though, so even if they don’t totally tame the mosquito problem, they are a handy species to have around. That being said, both my neighbor and I have had bat houses for about a year, and so far no new residents. We may be too far from a good water source for them.
