I have been seeing a number of Nissan Leaf cabs driving around DC, and I was wanting to book one for my taxi ride tomorrow, but I can’t find anywhere on the internet what company to call to book one of these. Google Fail! Cars are red and grey (Red top??) and have green highlights.
Any one have info on these?
I’ve been using Uber now for roughly two years. Ever from the start it was my assumption that tipping is not included in the cost and that was part of the beauty of Uber. You don’t tip, you don’t have to carry cash and all costs are included in your fare.
Officially, with respect to tipping, Uber’s website states,
“You don’t need cash when you ride with Uber. Once you arrive at your destination, your fare is automatically charged to your credit card on file — there’s no need to tip.”
However, recently I came across an article called “7 Things You Do That Annoy Your Uber Driver — This is Uber etiquette 101.” The second thing listed was tipping and the article goes on to say,”
“Uber actually makes all new passengers set a tip percentage for UberTaxi rides when they first sign up, …… referring to the option for passengers in some cities to use the app for hailing taxis rather than private cars. This, he added, “leads to lots and lots of passengers incorrectly assuming that tip is included in the fare price for UberX,” which is the app’s cheapest option. Tip is “most definitely not” included for UberX…”
In addition to this the following articles from the NY Post and Boston Globe seem to indicate that you should tip your driver.
So, with all this in mind, I’d like to hear what others have to say.
I want to make DC aware of something terrifying that occurred to me on Friday evening, September 26th, around 10:30 pm, after taking a taxi home to Cleveland Park.
After repeated personal questions and inappropriate comments (eg “I like you,” “will you go on a date with me?”), the cab driver stopped in front of my building, looked me in the eyes, intensely, and told me I was locked inside his cab until I handed over “enough” cash. (He had not turned on the meter for the trip). I was trapped inside and scared, so I complied with his request to hand over cash.
I filed a police report with MPD immediately following the incident, I have consulted an attorney, and I plan to press charges.
I notified the DC taxicab commision of the incident, and I plan to do the same in Maryland- the cab had Maryland plates.
It is outrageous how difficult it can be for women to travel around this city safely.
Shortly after 10pm last night on the 400 Block of New York Ave NW in front of Yale West Apartments are man was running up the sidewalk with a machete. I thought surely someone would call the cops or I would see a report online somewhere. So far, nothing. Anyone else see or hear about this? I hope everyone was safe.
