“Service and Rally of the Interfaith Community to Affirm Love Over Hate”

From an email:

“On Sunday January 8, 2017 at 4 pm at Michigan Park Christian Church, 1600 Taylor Street, NE (the corner of S. Dakota and Taylor, NE) leaders of the Interfaith community will come together to affirm “Love Over Hate: A Season of Resistance.” This service and rally is in direct response to the divisiveness and rancor that has been offered in the current political climate in the nation. The Clergy leading this call to resistance are clear that it doesn’t have to do with a candidate winning or losing, but the fact that a sacred social covenant has been broken where those who are considered “Other” have been castigated, threatened, and endangered.

The clergy will assert the illegitimacy of this administration and how it doesn’t command leadership because it has done little or nothing to win that leadership. Leadership is not given but earned, and this administration has not earned it.

Leaders from the Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and Social Justice communities will stand together in solidarity to issue this call. There will be immigrant rights organizers and workers in attendance and speaking. There will be a call to stand up and oppose the Sessions nomination.”

Calling all bookworms, thrill-seekers, supporters of the arts, and ping-pongers at all skill levels! Sign up for Paddlestar Galactica, the ping-pong tournament supporting 826DC’s youth writing programs.

826DC is a local nonprofit that offers free writing programs, homework help, and publishing opportunities for DC students ages 6-18, in our Columbia Heights writing center and in learning spaces across the city.

Paddlestar Galactica helps keep writing education 100% free and accessible for all of our students! It’s also extremely fun.

This year’s games will be Saturday, April 27th, 1 PM to 4 PM at SPIN DC. It’ll be a chaotic afternoon of ping-pong, costumes, terrible Battlestar Galactica puns, and good cheer. We’d love to have you join us!
