We need your help to find a home for Mischa.
She is a beautiful girl, friendly girl whose owner doesn’t want her any more. We think she is about 2 years old and “lives” at the corner store at 12th and M but prefers to wander the neighborhood. She’s been staying with us here at the Iowa for a while, but We’d like to find her someplace warm and loving before winter. Interested people can contact [email protected].
Does anyone know of a local veterinarian that will let me stay with my dog until she is brought back to be anesthetized for her spaying procedure? My current vet (Atlas) requires me to drop my dog off at 8 am and have her sit in a cage until her procedure at 11:30. I know she’ll need to be shaved and have blood taken but I’d like to be with her until the she is anesthetized.
When: Tuesday, June 28, 2016, 6-7 p.m.

Hi. Wrhave been living in Petworth for 10 years and we’re extremely excited about a lot of the positive changes we have seen and continue to see in our community. So much so, we are seriously considering opening a new business – Doggie Spa/ Daycare business for the dog owners in the Petworth area. Services provided at K-9 Condo would include doggie DIY (do-it-yourself) bathing stations, day and overnight quality care while pet owners are at work or away for travel, and dog walking services.
> While this seems like a great idea to my partner and I, we were wondering what the broader Petworth Community thinks and whether or not they would embrace and support such a business?

Posting this on behalf of a coworker who had to leave the country and could not take her dogs with her. The dogs are currently at the Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center: http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/animalservices/
A description of each dog from the owner:
Artie is a 110 lb Boerboel, rescued from a dump where he was abandoned in South Africa. He is 3.5 years old. He’s neutered. He is intelligent and needs to be challenged. He can fetch, stay, sit, shake. Likes to sit at my feet. He’ll follow me around the house. He’s loyal and protective.
Penny is a sweet, docile dog who provides excellent companionship. She will come lay by you if you are working on another room in your home. She reminds me of a deer, or antelope, because she kind of lopes, or bounces up and down when she is happy. She enjoys walks. She keeps to herself, doesn’t pick on the other dogs. She likes to be brushed and have her belly rubbed. She would enjoy sleeping on your bed. If you don’t like dogs on the bed, she’d be happy to stay by you on a blanket next to the bed.
Spotted: an adorable black & white cat hanging around the 3100 block of 11th Street in Columbia Heights (across from Tubman elementary). The neighbors started noticing him/her 2 days ago – SUPER friendly, affectionate, well kept, etc… Clearly a pet, but has no collar.
Unfortunately, we can’t take it into our home – we plan to schedule a pickup to the WHS, but would rather find the owner! Please let me know if you have any information or recognize this little furball!
I know what you were thinking, that looks a lot like Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, but alas, this is The Kitten Harts. Meet Theena, Midnight, Mason, Hardie and Alex, all ready for adoption through the Washington Humane Society. They are in foster care on Capitol Hill, waiting for their forever homes.
They were born at the end of May and are just around 7 weeks old. They are all fantastic at using the litter box, love toys, people and of course, snuggling! They each have wonderful, BIG personalities, so feel free to come meet them if you are interested in a forever-buddy (or 2 or 3…).
Midnight Hart: This sassy little girl will melt the heart of even the coldest human. With her striking eyes, mink colored coat and just the most adorable personality, let her be your next confidant and best friend.
Mason Hart: Mason is the ginger of the Hart family, but don’t think that’s a bad thing. He’s orange and loving it. His adorable sleeping positions, lovable snuggling personality and his sweet demeanor make him the perfect combination of company and snuggle buddy.
Alex Hart: Alex is the wonder kitten. He was the first of his litter to eat solid food, play with toys and use the litter box. He is totally adaptable and would love lots of toys, kids and i’m sure would be great with a dog. Alex is not only totally, unbelievably adorable, but is the cat for anyone who wants a dog. With some time, I’m sure he will fetch, sit and roll over.
Hardie Hart: This big boy is a lovable snuggle bear. With his teddy bear like paws, he is super calm and will be a totally chill kitten for anyone to take home.
Theena Hart: The name Theena is indicative of an expressive, diplomatic and refined personality. That she is! This little girl is so adorable and loves to sit on your lap and peruse the world below. She is a snuggler, smart and just about as chill as kittens come. This little girl is for you if you are looking for a couch buddy and permanent sidekick.
If you are interested in meeting any of the Harts, email Foster Mom, Jessie, at [email protected].
I’m Paddington! Hi! I’m mostly white with orange tabby markings on his tail, butt, one on his back and on his head. I kinda gorgeous! Now let’s be frank…I have done well with other small dogs but I’ve never interacted with larger breeds. It depends really. I’ve never ever hissed, and when Mom had me in Brooklyn, other outdoor kitties would come to my window and visit my ALL the time! Humans too…I’m quite popular. 😺
I’m a very laid back, chillaxed, docile, type of guy with spurts of “kitten energy” every now and then. (Hey…I’m 4!) I L-O-V-E being groomed, and tend to be a master snuggler….which will elicit purrs of epic proportions. My attitude is very regal, especially after he’s been groomed. 😸 My Mom is moving again…and has the amazing opportunity to travel for a living (she’s a photographer) and well, I prefer something a bit more stable, ya dig? 😼 looking for a new forever home. Love me, like she does…I guarantee I’ll love ya back even more!
I’m hopefully getting a dog in July and was hoping for some tips about raising a dog in DC. I just read someone else’s post about how pet owners really need to lookout for chicken bones on the street– something I would have never really thought about. Any tips like that or suggestions on dog walkers/good dog parks would be much appreciated. I live in Bloomingdale, so suggestions about Bloomingdale, Shaw, & Petworth are especially appreciated.
A medium hair cat with a brown coat and white on the paws, nose and chest was lost on Saturday afternoon near 9th and Q St NW. She is an indoor cat and is likely scared and hiding.
All of her vaccinations are up to date and she is microchipped. Her name is Lucy. I am devastated by her loss and hoping someone will find her. If you see a cat matching Lucy’s description please contact Lindsey 612-308-4196 or email [email protected] or contact DC Animal Control. There is a reward for her return.
Hi everyone – I found this kitten darting onto 14th St. at Otis Pl NW last night around 8:45. When I paused for a second she came running to me immediately. She was so affectionate and friendly, and seemed to be well cared for but no tags or collar. I brought her home and called the Washington Humane Society, who came to pick her up since I wasn’t able to house her. The officer I spoke to said he thought she was about 5 months old and that she probably isn’t feral. If someone lost her they should contact WHS and I hope they can be reunited! Her information and a picture is posted here: http://support.washhumane.org/site/PageServer?pagename=lostfoundpet&AddInterest=1047) (scroll through and find Violet)
I’m not sure what happens if no one claims her, but this kitten is so sweet and very adoptable I imagine – in case anyone in PoPville is interested in tracking her down and adopting (a la Rickie from September 2014 – http://www.popville.com/2014/09/shes-been-renamed-rickie-short-for-frederique-in-homage-to-her-frederick-douglass-bridge-heritage-and-gender-bending-ways/)
Either way I hope she gets home!
My cat Max ran out of my house at around 5:30 pm last night. He’s black, neutered and thrilled to be outside so you may see him relaxing in your yard or trying to get into your house. If you see him please call Kim at 202-725-5866.
We are seeking motivated dog walkers on a mid-day, M-F schedule.
Saving Grace Pet Care dogs are friendly dogs…and they want to be YOUR friend, if you’ve got the right stuff.
And by ‘stuff’ we mean, a heart for dogs, attention to detail and an interest in building great (and lucrative) bonds with pets and people.

Hey POP readers,
I live up in Petworth and in the last few months have been having to deal with a huge stray cat population in my back yard. On New Years Eve, we trapped a big orange tomcat, but the Humane Society couldn’t take him due to the holidays. Not wanting to leave him outside, and because he wasn’t in the best of shape, we set up a kennel for him in our basement until we could take him in to get neutered. We’ve been caring for him until he gets healthy again. Just the other day, we were able to get him neutered and patched up for a few infections and he’s back on the mend.
It turns out, he’s a scrappy tomcat who is far more friendly that I originally thought (we assumed him to be feral.) He purrs the moment you enter the room and loves to crawl into your lap for belly rubs. He’s a little scuffed up, but has some of the most adorable habits. He snores in his sleep and loves cuddles.
He’d make an excellent companion for someone who doesn’t have any pets. I don’t know if he’s FeLV+ or has FIV, but it’s something I have no problem in getting checked out if anyone is interested.
We don’t have the room for another cat in our house, so we’re shopping him around! If you know anyone that is interested in acquiring the most loving cat who is a tad bit rough around the edges, let me know. I’d rather him find a warm home than have to put him back outside when the weather thaws.
My fiance has affectionately named him Heathcliff, which is fitting! Find Heathcliff a home guys! He deserves it. If interested, please email me at [email protected]
My co-workers rescued this little gal from the middle of the street on the way to work this morning, and write:
“She was just sitting there as cars and buses drove by. It’s hard to tell what happened to her. She seems used to people – she was calm as my friend picked her up, and she sat in our laps the entire time we drove to the humane society – but she wasn’t wearing a collar and seems to have been on her own for at least a few weeks. Her fur is rough, dirty, and thinning in some places, and it looks like something happened to her tail. She’s a sweetheart, though! Docile and burying her face in my friend’s arm, just looking for love!
Anyway, if she does belong to anyone or if anyone is looking to adopt, she’s at the Humane Society at 1201 New York Ave. NE.”
I would also like to add, for those of you who don’t know, that this cat has 6 toes–an extra bean to love.
