Nootana, D.C.’s premier live Indian classical music and dance ensemble, is proud to announce its 3rd annual “UTSAV: CELEBRATING INNOVATION.” This year’s showcase will feature an originally arranged dance drama exploring the emotions of love through melody, rhythm, and storytelling. Using a combination of South Asian, Western, Middle Eastern, and African styles, Nootana will perform traditional and reinterpreted arrangements of Indian classical music.
Brooke Kidd, a celebrated arts leader, dancer, and artist in the community, will also be performing at the upcoming showcase in a collaborative piece with Nootana artists. As the owner and founder of Joe’s Movement Emporium in Mount Rainier, Md., Brooke continues to support the growing arts community of the area through her passion, commitment, and dedication. Joe’s Movement Emporium is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

The 2014 Capital Fringe Festival is looking for volunteers for this summer’s Festival, which kicked off on July 10th and goes through July 27th!!
The Festival connects local audiences with dynamic, diverse performing arts programming that is affordable and accessible. Our goal is to create space for discussion and collaboration around the performing arts.
The Festival relies on its ~450 volunteers throughout, and as it continues to grow in its 9th season, volunteers are playing an even larger role. Volunteers sustain the Festival, and do a huge job in making it run smoothly.
We love our volunteers, and there are many perks to helping us out. For each shift, volunteers will receive vouchers that can be redeemed for show tickets. All volunteers get Fringe t-shirts, and volunteers that do multiple shifts can choose to exchange their vouchers for a Festival button.
We have two types of volunteer shifts during the Festival:
Baldacchino Tent Volunteers: These volunteers assist with food prep, running food to tables in the tent, and maintaining the areas behind the bar. This job requires a lot of energy and a great attitude! Shifts will start and end at Fort Fringe.
Box Office Volunteers: We have box office volunteers at every single show. These guys sell tickets and buttons at the show venue, provide customer service to all patrons, and maintain ticket-selling packs throughout their shift. Shifts will start and end at Fort Fringe.
If this sounds like fun to you, shoot me an email at [email protected].
You can view available shifts by enrolling in the Volunteer Portal at https://www.capitalfringe.org/for-volunteers. Enrolling does not mean you have to sign up for anything, but gives you access to the calendar of open volunteer opportunities.
Hope to see you at the Festival!!
