Become A CPE Mentor!

Nationally, only 11% of low-income, first-generation to college students will earn a bachelor’s degree by their mid-20s. For over 20 years, Capital Partners for Education (CPE) has improved the futures of motivated, low-income high school students throughout the DC metro area by helping them to get to and through college. With 99% of CPE graduates transitioning into college and 70% graduating on time, CPE effectively helps students traverse the college process, transition into college, and graduate at more than 6 times the rate of their peers nationally.

Mentoring is the cornerstone of CPE’s successful college preparatory program. If you are a college graduate, work in the DC metro area, and like to have fun, you already have all the skills to succeed in this program. We provide training and ongoing support throughout your mentoring relationship, so all you need to do is be yourself!

A candidate must be: – At least 21 years of age or older. – Be a college graduate. – Should be willing to go through a background check with CPE. The next orientation will be

Mentoring Works! Virtually Mentor a College Student!

Founded in 1993, Capital Partners for Education (CPE) is a dynamic college preparatory program that helps motivated, low-income students in the Washington Metropolitan area to get to and through college by providing one-on-one mentoring, college and career preparation and support, individualized staff support, school partnerships and scholarships.
We are now hosting mentor orientations for our CPE Transformers Program. The Transformers Program consists of CPE students that have graduated from high school and want continued mentorship support in college. The Transformer Program requires remote communication through emails, texting, and phone calls, and quarterly in-person meetings. Transformer mentors follow these guidelines:
-Talk to your mentee once a week (on the phone or via Skype etc.)
-Meet up once per quarter
-Complete monthly online 5-minute surveys
-Complete check-ins with CPE Student Mentor Coordinators to see how the relationship is progressing

Got wisdom? We need long-term MENTORS for motivated low-income students!

Nationally, 41% of low-income students will enter college, while only 8% will finish by their mid-20s. In Wards 7 and 8, where the highest percentage of our students reside, only 1 in 3 students finish high school within five years, and only 1 in 20 high-school graduates earn a college degree within five years.

Since inception, 99% of Capital Partners for Education (CPE) graduates have gone on to college, and 70% have graduated on time.
