Signature Speaker Series: A Conversation with Author Angela Flournoy

Come hear author and National Book Award finalist Angela Flournoy talk about her book, The Turner House. Flournoy will be in conversation with Kelly Navies, oral historian at the new Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture. Set in Detroit, The Turner House brings us a colorful, complicated brood full of love and pride, sacrifice and unlikely inheritances. It’s a striking examination of the price we pay for our dreams and futures, and the ways in which our families bring us home.

A Woman’s Worth, A Playwright’s Journey

Join us as DC Public Library celebrates Women’s History Month:

Meet Marcia Cole!

An accomplished local playwright and member of the Aspiring Writer’s Circle will discuss her creative process and the inspired path she followed to create her play, A Matter of Worth.

Selected for the recent Women’s Voices Theater Festival, the play shines a spotlight on women in times of slavery.

A brief performance from the play will follow.

The event will be held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library on Tuesday, March 22nd at 7 p.m. in Room A-3, located on the Library’s lower level.
